Healthy MR. POTATO HEAD™
The “Healthy Potato” campaign is a long-term United States Potato Board commitment to increase consumer awareness of potato nutrition. The USPB has implemented and strengthened its national campaign with the ongoing support of the Wisconsin Potato & Vegetable Growers Association.
Officially launched in February 2004, the “Healthy Potato” program put the potato nutrition label front-and-center in advertising, publicity, foodservice, and retail communications. Much of the industry joined in – adding their voices to tell the good nutrition story. To keep momentum strong after the launch, the USPB continued to create “news” about potato nutrition. A combination of new projects, such as the kids’ nutrition program and building on nutrition stories created by others, achieved that goal. By June 2005, the “Healthy Potato” message registered 157 million consumer impressions, and positive consumer attitudes toward potato nutrition improved 4%.
Healthy MR. POTATO HEAD debuted in August 2005 as the next phase of the campaign began. This world-renowned character raised awareness about the importance of living a healthy lifestyle and the power of a balanced diet. His new lifestyle continues to provide a platform for news media and publicity and to foodservice and retail promotions, as well as lots of excitement for the industry.
